UT99 Opening Reimagined in UE5

I had the absolute pleasure of contributing to this special project for Unreal Fest, reimagining the iconic intro of the original Unreal Tournament (1999). As a lifelong fan of retro PC gaming, this was an incredible treat to work on.

My responsibilities spanned environment modeling, look development, final lighting, and compositing. This project was brought to life by the collaboration of incredibly talented artists at Blur, under the supervision of the brilliant pixel wizard:

I had the privilege of owning this section of the intro entirely, from building the subway environment to designing the look, lighting, and final compositing.

Here are some in-viewport screenshots. Most of the modeling was done directly in-engine, utilizing Megascans assets and marketplace packs.

I contributed to some of the environment modeling and set dressing for the overpass, as well as the look development. Lighting was a collaborative effort with the amazing Alla Chernova.

The city environment was another area I had the pleasure of owning entirely—from designing and building the environment to crafting the look, final lighting, and compositing. Kickass Dam and the highways are by Damien Peinoit!

This beast environment was built by the talented Damien Peinoit. Lighting was a collaborative effort between Mathias Jourdes, Jean Baptiste Cambier, and myself. I also contributed to some set dressing around the dam area and the stadium.
